Presented by Jerry Cecil
Local historian Jerry Cecil presents the fascinating history of the beginning and development of railroads in Winchester, Kentucky from 1873 to 1973. Winchester’s growth and development can be directly linked to the arrival of the railroads in 1873. New businesses sprang up almost overnight to service the arrival of daily visitors, to store raw or finished materials in numerous warehouses that were quickly built, and new housing “additions” were laid out in lots that moved natives and newcomers increasingly to the south and west of the courthouse.
