Jim Coleman, President and CEO of Coleman Crest Farm, will be the featured speaker at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum’s monthly Second Thursday Program on March 9. His topic will be “Seizing the Moment.”
Mr. Coleman has had a long and varied career. He was raised on his family’s farm in Lexington, which was purchased by his great-grandfather in 1888 after he previously worked the land in slavery. The farm has remained in the family throughout the generations.
Jim graduated from Howard University in 1983 with a B.A. in Economics and proceeded on a career with such companies as Oscar Mayer, Pepsi Cola, American Express, and others. He also worked for government entities in New York and Maryland, including as president & CEO of the Prince George’s County Maryland Economic Development Corporation.
When his wife Cathy passed, Jim returned to Lexington with the goal of restoring and revamping Coleman Crest Farm with emphasis on organic farming and creating a teaching venue for aspiring farmers. In a video about his farm, he says he hopes to inspire young people to get an understanding of business and the importance of thinking like an entrepreneur, making and sticking with decisions, knowing they can “seize the moment” and make the most of their lives, whether they decide to go into farming or not.
